Wing - A New Footpath to Enjoy

Wing had a circular walk created under the Parish Paths Partnership, using a combination of definitive footpaths and permissive routes across Bucks County Council agricultural estate and through a Biological Notification Site – Long Spinney.  Some six years ago this fell into disuse as the Council closed the routes through the Spinney due to concerns about Health and Safety – all the bridges were rotten and a number of trees had become unsafe with no funding available to address either issue.  After a number of years of effort, the Wing Parish Council has taken a lease on the area and Bucks have agreed that the main route through the Spinney can be adopted as a new Public footpath.  Whilst there remains much work to do to bring the whole area up to standard with the help of some 80 local volunteers who have signed up for the task,  Bucks County Council have invested in new fencing, bridges and other works and a formal opening will take place at the Spinney on 4 May at 1pm - bring a picnic and ‘sit-upon’.  This also has given the opportunity to reissue an amended Wing Circular Walk leaflet using the new footpath and people will be led from a starting point at the Saxon Church at 12 noon, after morning café, bell-ringing and VE-Day displays there, round part of the Circular Walk to the Spinney. The Wing Circular Walk leaflet is available here
